Technical Special Master publishes sourced analysis at the intersection of law and technology: digital evidence and cyber-litigation on one side, artificial intelligence and governance on the other. Our reader is the judge, litigator, or neutral who needs the technical questions in a modern dispute explained accurately and without hype.

Technical Special Master is published by Law & Forensics LLC, a professional-services firm specializing in cybersecurity, digital forensics, and e-discovery. The publication is editorially independent commentary and general information; it is not legal advice and creates no attorney-client relationship.

Daniel B. Garrie — Editor and publisher. Daniel B. Garrie is a court-appointed technical special master, discovery referee, and forensic neutral, and the founder of Law & Forensics LLC. He has served in more than one hundred court-appointed and expert-witness matters involving source code, e-discovery, cybersecurity, and artificial-intelligence systems, and is an adjunct professor at Harvard University.

Articles are published under the byline Technical Special Master Editorial, not under an individual’s name, because they are drafted by an AI system rather than written by a person. See “How articles are produced” below.

Every article on this site is drafted by an AI system. A weekly automated process selects a topic from an editorial backlog, researches it against a restricted source allowlist, drafts the piece, and publishes it. Articles carry the byline Technical Special Master Editorial and a visible editorial note, and no article is attributed to an individual, because no individual writes them.

AI is the drafting and research mechanism. The editorial standard, the source allowlist, the topic selection, and responsibility for what is published rest with the masthead. Where an article does not list sources, it is offering general explanation of published rules rather than reporting on a development, and should be read that way.
